TE TŌANGA O TE RĀ:
28 o Maehe 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doris “Irene”, who passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving whānau, aged 97 years.
Devoted mother of Lynnette Te Ruki, Wayne Te Ruki, George Te Ruki, Gary (Chic) Te Ruki, Massey Te Ruki and Lloyd Te Ruki. A much-loved grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, cherished aunty, and friend to many. To all who knew her, she was “Aunty Doris”, “Old Nan”, and “Nanny Whaene”. She will be forever remembered as Te Puhi o Unu.
E moe e ruhi.
He aitua, he aitua!
Kua hinga Te Puhi o Unu!
Tangi kau ana a Unu i te rirotanga atu o tōna Puhi!
A Tungi to celebrate Doris’ life will be held at Te Kōpua Marae, Morgan Road, Pokuru, on Tuesday, 31 March 2026 at 11:00am, followed by burial at the Te Awamutu Lawn Cemetery, where she will return to her beloved husband, Alan Walters.
NGĀ WHAKARITENGA:
To celebrate Nan’s life, whānau and friends are asked to wear their brightest coloured kākāhu (clothing). She loved flowers and vibrant colours and often said, “no black at my tangi please.”
Kua horo te tihi o Kakepuku, kua horo Hikurangi-pā-tirohia, kua horo Ariki-tīrere, ka horo…
ka horo…
Messages to the Walters/Te Ruki whānau may be sent c/- 262 Ohaupo Road, Te Awamutu 3800, or left in Doris’ online tribute book at www.rosetown.co.nz

This is the end of an era. Irene was such a part of our childhood, and there was a Teruki in each class a Connor was in. Elsie will be so pleased to meet with her again. I am so sorry I could not get down to Te Awamutu to celebrate her life, my thoughts and love go out to you all.

Allan and I are deeply saddened to hear of Aunty Dories recent passing.
She was such a beautiful lady who had a smile as big as life itself.
I will hold dear the memories I have of her when mum and dad were living at Pokuru and the times we shared together at Te Kopua Marae on many occasions. They were special times.
Unfortunately Allan and I are unable to attend Aunty’s service, please know our heartfelt thoughts are with you and your families.
We wish you peace and healing at this difficult time and may your love and the memories you have created together be your strength and comfort in the days to come and in your times of need.
Aroha nui ki te whanau Pani
Moe mai ra, e te kuia, moe mai ra
